Professor Melanie Barwick is a Senior Scientist and Head of the Child and Youth Mental Health Research Unit, (CYMHRU) within the Department of Psychiatry at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. She is affiliated with both the SickKids Learning Institute and SickKids Research Institute, acting as the Scientific Director of Knowledge Translation for the Child Health Evaluative Sciences programme in the Research Institute. She is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Melanie is an internationally recognised expert in implementation science and knowledge translation, and has a programme of research that spans health, mental health, education and global health sectors. Her research aims to improve the implementation of evidence into practice and to broaden the reach of evidence more generally to support decision making, policy, knowledge and awareness. She provides expert advice to government and service providers in the child and youth mental health, health and education sectors and extends her impact via a prolific and varied social media presence. Melanie’s role in the Ni3 Centre will be to work with Country Directors to develop Knowledge Translation Plans and to provide training to local academics in knowledge translation through the Scientist Knowledge Translation Training™ (for researchers) programme.
