On the 6th November 2019 our UK Country Director, Gill Kirkman, attended a session held by local youth organisation Conscious Youth to pilot their new ‘Conscious Girls’ programme.
Conscious Youth is a West Yorkshire based youth organisation, working in close consultation with young people to address active citizenship and community cohesion. The Conscious Girls programme works with girls aged 11-15 and explores issues around healthy relationship, dating violence, domestic abuse and the impact on children.
As part of the pilot, the girls participated in a number of activities, enabling them to think about love, consent, acceptable behaviours, jealousy and control. This was a great opportunity for Gill to talk about her work with Ni3 and to highlight the types of abusive behaviours which occur in adolescent dating relationships, the prevalence of dating abuse and the impact that this can have on people who find themselves within such relationships.
The pilot was a great success, with the girls taking part engaging enthusiastically, asking questions and feeling more informed about healthy relationships.
