The None in Three Research Centre is pleased to welcome Dr Nadia Wager to the post of Acting Centre Director. She will work closely with our current Director, Professor Adele Jones, and the Centre Management Team in the coming months as we continue to develop the long term future of the centre.
“Aged 17 years and 9 months, I left a position working as a research assistant for the tobacco industry, which was offering fantastic career prospects, because I wanted to ‘change the world’ and work in a more ethical environment. I knew that this would be little, by little and didn’t expect to conquer all of the world’s problems immediately!
I undertook a variety of care/support worker roles, that I cherished for 17 years while working for a range of different client groups, including the elderly; young people with physical and learning disabilities; young children and their families; and people affected by mental health issues. The one thing I encountered repeatedly in all of my positions was the presence and impact of gender-based violence. Feeling helpless in my caring roles to effect ‘significant world change’ I returned to education with the specific aim of preventing gender-based violence.
That was in the mid 90s. It has been a long journey to get here, but my drive and commitment have been unwavering. Joining the None in Three team is like a dream come true. Meaningful change takes the effort of more than one person, or the message of more than one piece of research. Rather it takes a well-co-ordinated, multi-disciplinary, and inspirational group of policy makers, practitioners, and academics drawn from different corners of the world, who have a united goal and ethos.
None in Three is a transformative force. I am thrilled to be joining such a remarkable team and looking forward to us working together to end gender-based violence.”
